  MAG RUBBER

MAGNETIC RUBBER INSPECTION MATERIAL

MagRubber is a highly reliable, non-destructive inspection technique for detecting cracks and flaws in ferro-magnetic parts. The MagRubber System combines the principles of Magnetic Particle Inspection with a rubber replicating system resulting in crack indications and other flaws vividly displayed on a cast impression of the inspected parts.

MagRubber was developed to inspect aircraft parts for cracks and to extend inspection capabilities in areas with limited visual or mechanical access such as bolt-holes, blind holes, thread or gear root areas, and tubular components. Other useful applications are, inspection of parts with complex shapes, coated surfaces, or classifying defects requiring magnification for interpretation. In addition to the aerospace industry, MagRubber is widely used in power plant inspections and many other applications in general industry.

MagRubber consists of two componets, a vulcanizing rubber material containing specialized magnetic particles, and a hardener. MagRubber cures at room temperature so no special equipment is needed. To inspect a part such as a threaded hole in a metal component, the rubber material is mixed with the hardener, per instructions, and poured into the hole to be inspected. A magnetic field is applied which causes the particles to migrate and concentrate at the flaw area. After allowing as little as ten minutes to cure, the rubber replica is removed from the part and examined for defects. Any defects in the part being inspected will be displayed as vivid dark lines on the replica and all other surface defects and conditions will be accurately reproduced. After examination, the replica can then be stored and becomes a permanent record of the inspection.

Advantages of Magnetic Rubber Inspection Material
